Abstract
The purpose of this study was to suggest the future direction for developing a comprehensive support system in postsecondary vocational education course, based on the analysis of transition program effects and current employment status of postsecondary vocational education course graduates with mental retardation. The subjects of research were 131 postsecondary vocational education course graduates who had graduated from H Mental Retardation Special School in Kyonggi-Do during last ten years(20013-2012). The research method was cross-sectional survey research for six areas such as current employment status, school(satisfaction on transition program), residence, employment, leisure, and need on future policy. The results of the study were as followings:
First, unemployment rate of those graduates was increasing. This means enough follow-up support was not provided for the graduates to secure their job tenure. Second, the effects of transition program was not positive in almost all the study areas. It is assumed that this result might come from lack of individualized need assessment for those graduates, so that inappropriate transition education has been provided during last ten years. Therefore, it is necessary to develop life-long career education policy for postsecondary vocational education course by the government, based on need study of the students with moderate intellectual disabilities.
